The Godzilla Head (ゴジラヘッド) is one of Tokyo's most iconic pop culture attractions. Perched atop the Hotel Gracery Shinjuku in the heart of Kabukicho, the enormous life-sized replica of Godzilla appears to emerge from the rooftop, towering over the bustling entertainment district below.

Standing approximately 12 metres tall, the Godzilla Head has become a must-see landmark for fans of Japanese cinema and visitors exploring Shinjuku. Throughout the day and evening, the monster periodically roars, its eyes glow red, and smoke billows from its mouth, creating an unforgettable spectacle.

History

Godzilla was created by Toho Studios and first appeared in the classic 1954 film Godzilla. Since then, the giant monster has become one of Japan's most recognisable cultural exports, starring in dozens of films and television productions over the past seven decades.

The Godzilla Head was unveiled in 2015 to coincide with the opening of Hotel Gracery Shinjuku. Modelled after Godzilla's appearance in the 1992 film Godzilla vs. Mothra, the sculpture sits atop the Toho Building, reflecting the company's long association with Shinjuku and Japan's film industry.

Today, it remains one of Kabukicho's defining landmarks and a favourite stop for visitors exploring Tokyo.
