๐ History
The site originally formed part of a feudal lord's residence during the Edo period before becoming an experimental agricultural station in the late nineteenth century. It was later transformed into an imperial garden and officially opened to the public as Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden after World War II.
Today, the garden is managed by Japan's Ministry of the Environment and is recognised as one of the country's finest urban parks. Its blend of traditional Japanese landscaping and Western-inspired gardens makes it unique among Tokyo's public green spaces.
