Omoide Yokocho (ๆใๅบๆจชไธ), often known in English as Memory Lane, is a historic network of narrow alleyways located beside the West Exit of Shinjuku Station. Packed with tiny yakitori restaurants, izakayas and traditional eateries, it offers one of Tokyo's most authentic dining experiences and a rare glimpse into the city's post-war past.

๐ History
Omoide Yokocho emerged in the years following World War II as an informal black market, where vendors sold food and everyday goods during Japan's period of post-war reconstruction. As Tokyo recovered, many of these small stalls gradually evolved into permanent restaurants and drinking establishments.
The district became affectionately known as "Memory Lane" because of its nostalgic atmosphere, with much of its original layout preserved despite the rapid modernisation surrounding it. Although a major fire in 1999 destroyed part of the alleyway, it was carefully rebuilt while maintaining its traditional appearance.
Today, Omoide Yokocho remains one of Tokyo's best-loved dining precincts, attracting both locals and international visitors looking to experience an older side of Shinjuku.
